Elk Flats Engagement Photos
I’ve been loving engagement sessions with a more documentary approach lately! These photos were taken at Elk Flats Trail on the Oregon Coast, which is an incredible location if you want epic cliffs that feel like something out of a movie. It’s a sneaky little part of the Oregon Coast that looks like Ireland or Iceland.
About Elk Flats Trail
Elk Flats Trail is located between Cannon Beach and Manzanita on the Oregon Coast. You can find the trailhead on Google Maps here. The walk to this viewpoint is pretty quick, but the trail forks in a few directions if you want to do a longer hike. You can read more about the hike here.
Pros and cons of Elk Flats Trail
Pros
- Dramatic views - honestly some of the best you can find on the Oregon Coast
- Not very crowded - this isn’t a super well known location. Weekends and midday will be more busy!
- Short-ish walk.
- Unique location
Cons
- Dangerous, steep cliffs and drop offs - not for someone afraid of heights!
- It’s very windy!
- Trail gets a little steep near the end
- Can be muddy on a wet day or in rainy season
- Requires walking back up a steep hill afterward
- No bathroom
About the photoshoot
I did this shoot with my little sister and her fiancé, and it was the perfect adventurous location for them! We took these photos in April and the trail was pretty dry, though the winds were strong! I definitely recommend wearing a warmer outfit at this location since the wind can be so intense. Annie’s tan jacket was the perfect vibe.
